Kerrin Rennie Award Finalists

We are proud to announce the finalists for the prestigious Kerrin Rennie Award for 2025.

Medtronic’s Affera Mapping and Ablation System featuring the innovative Sphere-9 catheter is transforming and revolutionising cardiac care by uniting high-resolution mapping and dual-energy ablation—pulsed field and radiofrequency—into one device.

The conformable nitinol lattice tip delivers precise, tailored therapy with enhanced safety, while eliminating the need for multiple tools. This innovation allows physicians to treat a range of arrhythmias in one procedure, shortens procedure time, lowers costs, reduces radiation exposure, and supports same-day discharge.

Clinical studies show superior lesion durability, fewer repeat procedures, and zero major safety events, enabling hospitals to treat more patients efficiently while transforming patient outcomes and quality of life.

SamanTree Medical’s Histolog Scanner (distributed by Device Technologies) is a groundbreaking medical device that allows for the real-time detection of cancer cells during surgery, thereby enhancing precision and reducing the necessity for repeat procedures.

It has already been implemented in the most prevalent cancers in Australia, breast and prostate cancer, and it provides results within 10 minutes, enabling surgeons to act immediately and improve the quality of life and safety of patients.

The Histolog Scanner is a significant advancement in cancer treatment as it provides a practical, intraoperative alternative to frozen section and lab-based analysis.

3DMorphic
In Australia, currently 1 in 5 spinal fusion patients undergo revision surgery due to poor implant fit. 3DMorphic’s patient-specific implants provide a better fitting solution. A recently published clinical trial reported no revisions and significant enhancements in patient mobility, pain alleviation, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. The implants are designed and manufactured at a single Australian facility, enabling rapid production for both urgent and routine treatments. This innovation has significantly improved patient outcomes, exemplified by a 74-year-old female athlete who recently completed a 250km kayaking race after treatment.
Edwards-Lifesciences

The Edwards Sapien 3 Ultra RESILIA offers patients with severe aortic stenosis the prospect of a healthier, extended life.

The fifth generation of Edwards’ transcatheter heart valve expands upon two decades of innovation and investment, culminating in RESILIA tissue technology.

This cutting-edge calcium-blocking process improves durability and minimises the necessity for subsequent interventions, thereby addressing the primary cause of tissue valve failure.

Sapien 3 Ultra RESILIA provides patients with a renewed quality of life, safer outcomes, and enduring protection.
